Do I Really Need an Air Conditioning Tune-Up Every Year?

We get this question all the time from Framingham-area homeowners looking to save a few dollars.

The answer might surprise you. It’s no. You don’t really need an air conditioning tune-up, as long as you’re ok with…

Our expert technicians are here for youSchedule Online Today

Higher Energy Bills

Energy Star, utility companies and equipment manufacturers all recommend annual air conditioning tune-ups, but you don’t have to get one every year if you’re ok with higher utility costs.

Dirt and other debris build up on the evaporator coils of your air conditioner, which negatively impacts its energy efficiency. During an air conditioning tune-up, the technician cleans these coils and other internal parts to keep your air conditioner running efficiently.

The Possibility of More Repairs

If your air conditioner is newer or if you haven’t had any problems with it, you might think about skipping annual maintenance. And you might make it through summer ok this year.

But if you neglect maintenance consistently, you are guaranteed to run into more problems than if you get your annual tune-ups.

Think about what would happen if you skipped maintenance on your vehicle? You might be okay. Or you might end up on the side of a road with a repair bill much higher than the maintenance would have been.

The same is true with your air conditioner (except instead of being on the side of the road, you’ll be stranded at home with no AC!)

Purchasing Another Air Conditioner Sooner

Air conditioners can last up to 20 years when properly maintained.

On the other hand, the average lifespan for air conditioners without regular maintenance is only 10-15 years. So if you want to get the most out of your air conditioner, don’t skip your AC tune-up.

Voiding Your Manufacturer’s Warranty

This is the one many Framingham-area homeowners are unaware of. If you skip regular maintenance on your new Carrier, York or American Standard air conditioner, you could be voiding your warranty.

That means you’ll be left paying for air conditioning repairs, even if your AC is new.

It’s Highly Recommended

Air conditioning tune-ups aren’t absolutely required (unless you want to maintain your manufacturer’s warranty.) However, they are highly recommended because they reduce energy bills and repairs, extend the lifespan of your air conditioner and maintain your warranty.
